PRESENTATION SUMMARY
From a planning, water resource, and native plant perspective, the move to develop communities using Smart Growth techniques will provide huge benefits. The connections between Smart Growth and Low Impact Development are made clear in this enlightening presentation, as well as how the use of Low Impact Development design techniques can help preserve native vegetation and water quality throughout Florida.

SPEAKER BACKGROUND
Miki Renner is Planning Manager for the northern counties of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.  She has over twenty five years of planning experience at county, regional, state and federal levels and is an accredited planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners. She had the privilege of serving on the Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission for several years and was honored with the Chairmanship twice.  Miki has a strong environmental focus. She taught freshman classes in earth sciences, and geomorphology for four years.  She is a member of the District's Environmental Stewardship/Climate Change Initiative.  She has been a member of the Hernando County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society since its earliest days, serving as Secretary and currently President of the Chapter. As a resident of Florida for over forty years, one of her major interests has been Florida's unique ecology. Miki has a Master of Science degree in Geography from the University of Florida where she also earned a bachelors degree in Anthropology.
