PRESENTATION SUMMARY
Larry Maxwell showed design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both design quality and environmental performance. Examples projects included a Charter School that recently received a US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Energy Star for High Performance Buildings Award, for receiving the highest possible score for energy efficiency and low carbon emissions for a building built in the United States. Other projects presented included a 31 home development on the Indian River Lagoon in Melbourne built to withstand hurricanes and designed to the highest energy efficiency standards including integrated solar hot water and photo-voltaic systems to reduce non-renewable energy consumption. The project also incorporates the best examples of land planning and landscape design to achieve zero runoff into the Indian River Lagoon system. Also presented were a listener supported radio station in Tampa that incorporates the latest in energy efficiency and green construction concepts and the most sustainable site design concepts.

SPEAKER BACKGROUND
Lawrence Maxwell, AIA, is president of Spacecoast Architects, P.A., a firm in its 19th year of business in Florida. He holds Associates, Bachelors, and Masters Degrees in Architecture, and Bachelors degrees in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning.  Maxwell has been a Florida Licensed Architect for over 20 years.
