PRESENTATION SUMMARY
Richard Bialosky is working on the Mandala Club in Vero Beach, one of the most unique projects in the country—combining the age-old principles of Vedic architecture; non-toxic, health-promoting construction protocols; environmental sensitivity; energy efficiency; and an emphasis on planning techniques that promote a sense of community. Bialosky talked about sustainable development as both a responsibility and an opportunity, and explained how it’s really about how we think, not what we think as development professionals. He reviewed some of the products, practices, and protocols for energy-efficiency and healthy housing (and healthy planning) now available.

SPEAKER BACKGROUND
Richard Bialosky is a leader in Vedic green architecture and community development in the U.S. Bialosky has been practicing architecture and actively engaged in real estate development for 30 years, and has received over 60 local, state, and national awards including recent awards for sustainable planning and green building. He is currently the chairman of the Architectural Review Committee of the City of Vero Beach, FL.

Bialosky graduated from the School of Architecture at UC, Berkeley in 1969 and, over the past two decades, has received over 60 national, state, and local design awards. He pioneered the use of non-toxic building materials in the construction of his personal residence in 1987, which stands as an early model of non-toxic sustainable design. Over the course of his career, Bialosky has developed over 1500 residential units, as well as many commercial and office projects.  In 2000, alarmed at the direction the construction industry was continuing to take, and frustrated with the notion of fostering change in small incremental steps, Bialosky left the successful practice he had established in California to devote his energy solely to Vedic Green Development.
